Heligoland - Shift These Thoughts

i have not updated this blog in a very long while
because it does not matter.
i kept on thinking that i ought to write something,
but what is the point.

anyway, this album is beautiful.

Lowtide (ex-Three Month Sunset) - You Are My Good Light

oof.
fantastic.
gorgeous, chorus dripping shoegaze.
if you wanted a more upbeat Robin Guthrie
with the addition of similarly warm vocals, tada.

i am super into this.
and super sick.

Rockets Burst From The Streetlamps - Above A Moving Train

refreshingly unconcerned with gloss,
this shoegaze album is as raw as it as dreamy.
i cant believe they are from boston.
1998, where have you gone?

i am sick again.
how can i complain.

HALCYON HIGH - To Be Infinite

isnt that to be dead?

anyway, it's a beautiful lp
even it does at times tread a little too closely
something i wont mention.

Eternal - Breathe EP

before slowdive, Savill was in a band called Eternal.
incidentally, eternal also featured Sean Hewson of Monster Movie.
no kidding. good shoegaze is good.

i am sorry that we do not see eye to eye benji.
you are free to believe that hellogoodbye
is the best band ever,
i just disagree.

Skeletal System - St

sick. spring. break.
enjoy the weather.
ill be inside.

but what a fantastic album.
a fine gift indeed,
kindly released for free
by this san-francisco based darkwave duo.

ps.
no matter how much you love him,
never listen to scott walker when you are ill:
absolutely disastrous.

GENTLYFALL - neverfigure

it never stops raining.

this album is gorgeous.
i cannot believe it is available for free.
you know an album is going to be awesome
when it contains a song entitled
"drowning in a cesspool of love."

i need to post generally happier music,
stuff like "it's all good,"
but with significantly less tired 90's beats.

Elemental Gaze - unperfect sky

frankly, "love your love, death your love"
is embarrassing from its name to poor production,
but the title track and alternate version
more than make up for this gross shortcoming.

plus, i like to keep this blog diverse
in quality, frequency and origins
(this band is from indonesia, and i am an erratic mess.)

NIZ - Stone EP

gorgeous.
super noisey,
but melodic japanese
shoegaze.

Skies Of Ember - Endless Swoon

i hate bongos.
really, any hand drums
are the worst.

however,
this album is still great,
dark and sad,
despite one song's use of
those monstrosities.

PINKSHINYULTRABLAST - Happy Songs For Happy Zombies EP

i am sooo glad your
horrible friend is
from russia, because
she nearly made me
hate the entire culture,
including the 1/3 of
my own blood.

pinkshinyultrablast
helps me forget
how cruel you were.

is kickin out the jams
forever.

Colfax Abbey - Drop

Hatifnats – Before It Is Too Late

I am always wary of
artists described as
"alternative,"
a term which recalls
classically terrible bands
like creed.

however,
polish "alternative" outfit
Hatifnats is more on the
shoegaze side of things and
certainly the
"does not suck" side as well.

thank god.
the last thing i want to hear
is a shoegaze creed.

Cranes - Live At Paradiso Amsterdam (1991)

noisey, needy and dark.
i will spend the rest
of the day pacing wildly
in my cave; my room.

(always thankful for curtains
and shades.)

In Motion - The Language of Everday Life

I was a little
wary of this release
due to the questionable
album art,
but boy was i wrong.
this album is gorgeous,
catchy and oh so underrated.

i am going to wear oversized
sweaters and shave one side
of my head and dance
forever.

Espira - Bajo Tus Sueños EP

I may delete this post later,
but at the moment
this soft dreamy
shoegaze is just right.
Well, it could be sadder,
and slower, and less beat driven
but then it would be
everyone will leave you eventually.

Clams - Clams

To offset the devastating noise
of the previously posted
album, A Promise, the Clams
certainly deliver.
Enjoy the hazy relief
of this Japanese shoegaze
band's contrasting
sunny noise.

Afterlives - A Ticking Clock That I Couldn't Stop

I have nothing to say
about this exceptional
release from
Enemies List Home Recordings beyond
that it is everything anybody could
ever want or expect from
this consistently excellent
collection of artists.
If you like Have a Nice Life,
get this album. Buy it.
I can not speak highly enough
about this label.
