Beau Navire - Demo
Beau Navire is a new
screamo act comprised of
some serious heavy hitters
including members of
I Wrote Haikus About Cannabalism In Your Yearbook
as you would expect,
this cassette rules.
thank heavens for
good music.

Amenra - Afterlife
Even though this at times
comes dangerously close
to sounding like a band
your typical mall goth
would worship,
i still think that this
ep is pretty intriguing.
Amenra typically plays
sludge, so this is obviously
a drastic departure,
but one that i feel is more grounded
due to said background.
plus, it is dark
and ultimately obscure.
the third song is pretty solid,
initially possessing the stark
exhaustion of sadcore.
and the last three tracks
are just the first three in reverse.
again, borderline tacky,
but intriguing.
(honestly,
i think i may like the
tracks in reverse more.)

Calvin Harris - Ready for the Weekend
After the last post,
there really is no possible
way to go forward.
The Sound of Arrows
always, always always,
blow me away.
But in honor of
the release of the new
single by Calvin Harris,
Flashback,
here is the album featuring
this smashing track.
Honestly, I don't
think it is the strongest
album around, but it is pretty solid,
and really Flashback is great.
It's just so difficult
to think that anything
is all that exciting
after the new
Sound of Arrows.
Seriously,
those videos (and songs)
are amazing.

Suis La Lune - Heir ep
I cant believe my last post
was Erasure. At this point in time,
i would rather die than subject myself
to that bouncy barf.
heir is one of my favorite eps.
suis la lune has a new split out
which also rules, but whatever.
the majority of my recent posts
have been so absurd.
yikes.
i really need to
get it together.

Gonzales - Soft Power
Whatever.
I am going to do
what I need to do.
Currently, that means
post this whole album
exclusively for
the 70's
pop ballet throwback,
"slow down."
What a joke.
This song makes me furious,
but I know that it is
going to be tarring through
my head endlessly all day
thanks to a Minitel Rose
remix.

For Stars - Windows for Stars
And other times,
AMG get's it spot on.
This album sounds like
an emotionally exhausted
Parenthetical Girls.
The softer tracks
kill me.
I feel like saying
something personal here,
but to avoid sounding
cheap,
I will refrain.

Xiu Xiu - Fabulous Muscles
"I can stop lying, I can stop punching my own face
I can stop stealing money,
I can stop hating my own heart
I can do it
Because of you
I can stop scratching up my cheeks
I can stop drinking so much
I can stop wanting to kill myself
I can stop wanting your perfect heart
I can start listening, I can say hi
I can feel something good
Little Panda McElroy"
(sorry for two xiu xiu posts, but they are one of my favorites and this song is especially important to me at the moment)

Xplo-Sean - Believe Me/Outbreak
I recommend downloading
all of Xplo-Sean's tracks
from the Mad For It site.
Absolutely amazing,
lofi darkwave/synthpop,
and free too!
He sounds like an m83 who
never saw the light of day,
only a broken strobe,
and recorded alone
on a cheap multitrack.

Parker Lewis - The Cynicals
I would have preferred
to post a link to his
self titled album,
but the link on the
Mad For It site
is broken.
In any event,
this ep is fantastic.
Be sure to investigate
Parker Lewis' other releases
as well. They are free
for crying out loud.

small town boredom - Autumn Might Have Hope
This is one of my favorite
recently released slowcore albums.
It is consistently sad, exhausted
and devastated, unlike many
other slowcore albums which
have at least one reasonably
upbeat track.
those tracks are lame.
Unfortunately,
while this band excels
in delivering what the genre
calls for; unwavering sadness, their vocals
are at times a bit irritating.
one of the fellows sounds
almost bob dylan-esque
(blech. that in of itself
is reason enough to be
clinically depressed.
bob dylan is seriously horrible.
horrible.)

The Tumbled Sea - Melody Summer
I ought to be in bed.
I wish that I were in bed.
The tumbled sea offers the next best thing:
a lush body of ambient piano
to hold close, lulling the
heaviest of hearts into a beautiful warmth,
despite the changing of seasons
and people.
ps.my rapid stream of posts is a clear
indication that i am spending
entirely too much time on the internet

Veronica Lake - Discography
Sometimes, nothing can compare
to the humble honesty of
lofi pop. It is quite a comfort
hiding in the transparent
blanket away from the
synthetic polish of overproduction.
Sometimes, heartfelt lofi is the only
breath of truth available
in a school so overwhelmingly
fake.
(that being said,
some of these tracks
are quite well produced.
poof.)

Mineral - End Serenading
Hopefully, you already have
this essential album
(and their debut, power of failing),
but if you are like my dear friend tk
and have for whatever reason,
been unable to get your
needy hands upon this,
please do not waste another
needy moment.
I don't care what All Music says,
this album rules and always will.
